Boss Mick McCarthy believes a win at Stevenage in tonight’s first round Capital One Cup tie will provide a welcome boost ahead of Millwall visit to Portman Road in the Championship on Saturday. Aaron Cresswell, Tyrone Mings, Anthony Wordsworth and Jack Doherty are all injured, while Manchester United man Ryan Tunnicliffe is unavailable under the terms of his loan.

The Ipswich-born second-year scholar has been a regular member of the pre-season first team squad, along with fellow youngsters Amir Berkane, a midfielder who is also a second year, and left-back David October, a first-year professional.

Town were well on top in a first half and were two goals up at the break with Murphy adding the third from the spot after he had been fouled in a half in which the U’s presented a greater threat.
